Valun

The Croatian fishing port Valun is a registered my deterministic location of the town of Cres. The place is located in an elongated, oriented to the north bay in the middle of the island of Cres. Originally, whose inhabitants Valun in the nearby village of Bućev, which is now abandoned. This was a little further inland, created as protection against pirates. In today's Valun there is a church, which is dedicated to St. Mark, an indication that Valun and the entire island of Cres had heard in the Middle Ages to the sphere of influence of Venice. This church houses the so-called Valun Tablet, Glagolitic and Latin inscriptions. The written in the Latin alphabet text on this plate shall be in addition to the Baska tablet as the oldest written monument of the Croatian language.
