Vampire Academy (Film)

Vampire Academy is an American fantasy film from the year 2014. The director Mark Waters produced the movie in collaboration with the U.S. film company The Weinstein Company. It is based on the novel Blood Sisters by Richelle Mead. The movie was released in the U.S. cinemas on February 7, 2014. In Germany the film opened on 13 March 2014 in the cinemas.

Action

There are two types of vampires: Moroi and Strigoi. Moroi are mortal vampires and good. Strigoi are immortal, evil and dangerous. You try to destroy the Moroi why the dhampirs ( half human, half vampire) are trained to be guards to protect Moroi from them.

The 17- year-old Rose Hathaway is a dhampirs. It is formed on the Vampire Academy in fighting techniques, as they have to protect her best friend Lissa Dragomir and Moroi princess. The two quickly realize that the threat of Strigoi is greater than ever before and make lies, rumors and secrets within the Academy their lives difficult. Despite their hard training brings Roses coach and mentor, Dimitri Belikov their lives mightily confused.

Production

In June 2010, Preger Entertainment the film rights secured to the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. A month later, Don Murphy could undertake as a producer, is to make the novel one feature film. In December 2012, it was announced that Daniel Waters to write the screenplay and his brother Mark will take over as director.

The central female roles of Rose Hathaway and Lissa Dragomir went on February 1 at the American Zoey Deutch and the Australian Lucy Fry. Also in early February, the Russian actor Danila Kozlovsky was awarded for the male lead role of Dimitri Belikov. The 007 from James Bond: Quantum of Solace Olga Kurylenko known was cast on April 29, 2013 the role of Ellen Kirova. Other roles were cast in May 2013 with Gabriel Byrne, Sarah Hyland, Cameron Monaghan, Ashley Charles, Sami Gayle and Claire Foy. Recent roles went to Joely Richardson and to the newcomer Dominic Sherwood, who embody the roles of Queen Tatiana Ivashkov and the Christian Ozera.

Filming began on 28 May 2013 London at Pinewood Studios and ended on 20 July 2013.

Marketing

A teaser trailer was released in August 2013, the first trailer for Vampire Academy was on 21 November 2013:. Blood sisters published. In Germany the teaser on December 4, and the first trailer on December 19, 2013 was published.

Even before the theatrical release of the title in English and additional Blood Sisters Blood Sisters was deleted in the German title.
