Van Buren is a city in Crawford County in the U.S. state of Arkansas with 20,400 inhabitants ( 2004) and the county seat of administration. The metropolitan area has a size of 41.1 km ².

History

On January 4, 1845 Van Buren received officially the Local Self-Government.

The city was named after Martin Van Buren, the eighth President of the United States of America, named. On December 28, 1862 by the Battle of Van Buren instead. In this Union officer Samuel Curtis defeated a Confederate unit. On 21 April 1996, the area was hit by Fort Smith / Van Buren by a major hurricane.
