Vännäs Municipality

Vännäs is a municipality (in Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Västerbotten County and the counties of Västerbotten and Ångermanland. The main town of the municipality is Vännäs.

Geography

The municipality is located in the foothills of the Scandinavian Mountains and is characterized by a hilly landscape. The municipal area is dominated by the valleys of the rivers Ume älv and Vindelälven, which unite at Vännäsby.

Economy

Forestry, wood-processing industry and hydropower generation are important industries. A portion of the working population commutes to the neighboring coastal communities, especially to Umea.
