Vany, France

Vany is a commune with 330 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Metz- Campagne and the Canton of Montigny- lès- Metz.

Geography

Vany is a few kilometers north-east of Metz at an altitude 182-258 m above sea level. The municipal area covers 3.1 km ² (310 ha), and the population density is 107 inhabitants per km ². The place consists of the two districts Vany and Villers- l'Orme ( elm hamlets) that were 1819 closed. In 1907, a phylloxera Experimental Station was established as a branch of the Imperial Biological Institute for Agriculture and Forestry in elms hamlet. The entomologist, botanist and oenologist Carl Julius Bernhard Börner forwarded this station from 1907 until 1910.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1300 as Vainey.

1915-18 he wore the Germanized name Warningen and 1940-44 Warnich.
