Vättern

Vättern ( German Vättern, from Old Swedish vætur for lake waters) is the second largest lake in Sweden and is from Motala ström drains into the Baltic Sea. The name is first documented in 1220 in the form " Wetur ". About the Gota Canal Vättern is the Vänern in conjunction.

To the north is the lake average of 25 meters, in the south more than 100 meters deep.

The largest city on Lake Vättern is Jönköping Huskvarna on the southern shore of the lake. More cities will be Motala, Askersund, Karl Borg and Hjo. In the southern part of the island Visingsö is located directly opposite the small town of Gränna.

Every year in June there will be a cycling tour around the Vättern for everyone, Vätternrundan. The tour begins and ends in Motala and covers a distance of over 300 kilometers. There are indeed official timekeeping, but it no placement is derived.

Trivia

The lake is named after a bathroom furniture of the Swedish furniture company IKEA.
