Vaux-et-Chantegrue

Vaux- et- Chantegrue is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vaux- et- Chantegrue is located on 873 m above sea level, about 13 km southwest of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the Haut- Doubs, in a basin at the upper Drugeon before its entry into the narrow valley of the cluse oies, at the southern foot of the Montagne du Laveron.

The area of ​​13.98 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area occupied by the wide, swampy in the middle basin of Vaux, located at 860 m and is fed by the headwaters of the Drugeon. In the north of the municipality extends to the bottom of the hill Montagne du Laveron. Also, the upper part of the cluse oies belongs to the municipality. This Klustal, which is now drained by Drugeon, was created by the former course of the River Doubs. To the southwest, the municipality's area extends into the dry valley of Combe Noire in the chain of Haute Joux. The double municipality comprises the two villages of Vaux ( 874 m) at the Drugeon and Chantegrue (880 m) in the southwest of the valley basin of Vaux. Neighboring communities of Vaux- et- Chantegrue are Bouverans and La Planée in the north, Malpas and Labergement -Sainte -Marie in the east, Remoray - Boujeons in the south and Mignovillard and Bonnevaux in the West.

History

The first mention in writing Vaux already in 1126 in a charter of Humbert III. , Lord of Salins. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Since the time of the French Revolution and Vaux Chantegrue formed a double community. In 1973 merged Vaux- et- Chantegrue and Malpas to the new community Vaux- et- Chantegrue - Malpas. Attractions

Population

With 565 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Vaux- et- Chantegrue one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. Vaux- et- Chantegrue has a station on the railway line from Frasnian to Vallorbe, which opened in 1915.
