Station Veendam is a Dutch railway station in Veendam on the railway line Stadskanaal - Zuidbroek and since the end of 2011 terminus of the railway line Groningen Zuidbroek - Veendam. It is also the terminus of the museum line "STAR" of Veendam to Stadskanaal. The station was closed in 1953 for passenger and reopened in 2010.

History

The Veendam station was opened in 1910. He lay on the line Stadskanaal - Zuidbroek that of the Noordoosterlokaalspoorweg ( NOLS ) and later by the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) was built.

Station building

The station building is in the NOLS - station - style. After the closure of the station in 1953, the line was still used for freight transport. The building is a Rijksmonument.

Reopening

Although Arriva Netherlands already wanted to start operations in 2010, the Veendam station was opened on 1 May 2011 after 57 years again for passenger, for the execution of the line four sprint trains from Stadler Rail were purchased. For the railway operations of Arriva, a new platform was built.

Buses

On 15 September 2011 a Bussbahnhof was opened at the station. The bus lines 171, 110, 13, 76, 174, 271, 71, hold on Bussbahnhof. Also, the express bus 110 and the night bus ( only Saturday ) 401 keep it there.
