Velsky District

The Welski rayon (Russian Вельский муниципальный район / Welski munizipalny rayon ) is an administrative unit within the Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia. It is located south of the Oblasthauptstadt Arkhangelsk. The administrative center is the city Velsk.

Geography

The Welski rayon is located in the south of Arkhangelsk Oblast on the border of the Vologda Oblast. History

The area of present-day Welski rajon was originally settled by Finno- Ugric tribes.
