Velyki Sorochyntsi

Velyki Sorochyntsi (Ukrainian Великі Сорочинці; Russian Большие Сорочинцы / Bolschije Sorochyntsi, 1620: Krasnopil / Краснопіль ) is a rural municipality in the central Ukrainian Rajon Myrhorod ( Poltava oblast ) on the right bank of the river Psel.

History

During the Polish time the place had the status of a city. At that time owned the land to the lands of the Polish Prince Jeremi Wiśniowiecki. In the wake of the Cossack uprising Velyki Sorochyntsi 1648 received its own Cossack unit, which belonged to throng the city Myrhorod.

Beginning of the 17th century was built on the initiative of the hetman Danilo Apostol the transformation of the church, which was built in the style of Ukrainian Baroque.
