Verel-Pragondran

Verel - Pragondran is a town in the French department of Savoie in the Rhone -Alpes.

Geography

Verel - Pragondran is located at 580 m above sea level. M., about 5 km north- northeast of the town of Chambery (air line). The mountain village is located in the west of the department of Savoie, on the southwestern edge of the massif of the Wallows and at the foot of Nivolet: a scenic location about 300 m above the valley of Chambery.

The area of ​​6.53 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the massif of the Wallows. The main part of the area is occupied by an inclined towards the south projection on the western slope of the Nivolet and Mont Revard. The western boundary runs above the steep drop to the valley of Chambery. The area is drained by the village stream of Verel south to Leysse ( tributary of Lac du Bourget ). To the east, the municipality's area extends it across the characteristic bands of rock slope up below the summit of Nivolet. With approximately 1500 m above sea level. Neighboring communities of Verel - Pragondran are Drumettaz - Clarafond in the north, Les Deserts and Saint -Jean- d'Arvey in the east, Saint -Alban- Leysse in the south and Sonnaz and Méry in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Verel and Pragondran belonged to the reign of La Croix. In 1804 the town was officially renamed Verel Verel - Pragondran.

Population

With 439 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Verel - Pragondran one of the small communities of the department of Savoie. After the population was declining in the first half of the 20th century, a striking increase in population was recorded since the early 1970s thanks to the attractive residential area again. Since then the population has quadrupled.
