Vernois-lès-Belvoir

Vernois- lès- Belvoir is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vernois- lès- Belvoir is located on 514 m, 6 km northeast of Sancey -le- Grand and about 24 km southwest of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in a carrying of the Barbèche Basin at the southern foot of the eastern foot of Mont Lomont and de Belvoir.

The area of ​​4.68 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area occupied by the basin of Vernois, which is on average 500 m. This area is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. In the basin headwaters of several Barbèche flow together, which drains the area east to the Doubs. The basin is flanked to the west by the plateau of Mont de Belvoir, which has a 100 m high steep slope. Due to the erosion of the valleys Barbèche and its tributaries, the plateau is divided into different projections. The parish boundary runs mostly on the edge of the plateau above the escarpment. With 652 meters, the highest elevation of Vernois- lès- Belvoir is in the far south at the transition to the high plateau of Provenchère achieved.

Neighboring communities of Vernois- lès- Belvoir are Vyt -lès- Belvoir in the north, and Valonne Rosières- sur- Barbèche in the east, the south and Provenchère Belvoir to the west.

History

In the Middle Ages Vernois first belonged to the dominion of Belvoir and then to that of Châtillon- sous- Maîche. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

The village church of Vernois- lès- Belvoir was inaugurated in 1775. From 1879 comes the Mairie ( Municipal House ).

Population

With 62 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Vernois- lès- Belvoir is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1926 126 people were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1990s.

Economy and infrastructure

Vernois- lès- Belvoir was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the local small businesses. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road, leading from Vyt -lès- Belvoir to Rosières- sur- Barbèche. Further road links exist with Belvoir and Valonne.
