Versam

Versam ( in the local Walser dialect Frsam [ frsam ]; ? Romansh Versomi [ vəʁsɔmi ] / i) until December 31, 2012, a municipality in the district Ilanz in the district Surselva the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland.

On January 1, 2013, it merged with the municipalities Valendas, Safien and Tenna for new community Safiental and moved it into the circle Safien.

The fir is already found on a church seal from the mid-19th century. The black balls are taken from the coat of arms of the lords of Valendas who possessed property in the former municipality.

Geography

The former municipality is situated at the entrance to Safiental on a terrace right on the front of the Rhine and left over Rabiusa. In the north of the former municipal district of the Rhine Gorge, the Ruinaulta is. The place consists of the village Versam and the scattered settlements Arezen (986-1158 m) and Sculms ( 996 - 1'139 m). The hamlet Arezen is 1 km south of the village and Sculms 3.2 km to the southeast.

From all over the former municipality of 1677 ha 1184 ha ( = 70%) are forested and 178 ha ( = 10%) Mountains. From the usable floor of 282 ha 69 ha are managed as mountain pastures. In addition, there are 33 ha settlement area.

Population

From the end of 2004 271 inhabitants were 264 ( = 97 % ) Swiss nationals. The population belongs to the German ethnic group of the Walser and is reformed.

The former council consisted of five people.

Traffic

Versam is through the postal bus lines Versam - Safien Station - connected Versam post to public transport - Thalkirch and Ilanz. Next, there is a joint station with the former rural community Safien of the Rhaetian Railway in the Valley. From there, Chur, Disentis Ilanz and are achievable.

The Versamerstrasse connects Versam with Bonaduz. It crosses over the Versamer Gorge Bridge Versamer Gorge and then the Ruinaulta.

Education
