VfB Gießen

VfB 1900 Giessen ( Association for motion games 1900 casting eV ) is a sports club from the central Hessian casting.

The current club was formed by a merger of the two Giessen sports clubs VfB 08 and Game Association in 1900, in 1956, but the official founding date was 1900. It offers a range of sports facilities in all directions and reached up to the withdrawal of the first team, especially regionally significant successes in men's soccer. Since the 2009/10 season, the club plays in the regional league.

08 VfB Gießen

08 VfB Gießen was founded in 1908 and reached in 1911/12 the final round of the West German Championship, but lost in the semifinals of the A- class champions Borussia Mönchengladbach 0:5. After the 2nd World War, the club was refounded as VfR Reichsbahn 1908 casting, but declined in 1947 back to the original name.

SpVgg 1900 casting

The second merger club was founded in 1900 as FK Giessen in 1900 and was under this name in 1909 in the quarterfinals to the West German championship. 1938, stood in the promotion round to Gauliga Hesse, but could not prevail against the competitors, finishing in last place in the group. The name SpVgg 1900 casting was assumed in 1926 after a merger with SpVgg 1904 Giessen.

VfB 1900 Giessen

1951, the men's team rose to the then national league, which was called for a reorganization of the German league system until 2008 Oberliga. The club was able to keep 31 years without ascent or descent in the league and won three times the Hessen Cup (1964, 1972 and 1979). Basketball

The first team of the basketball department plays under the name VfB Giessen Pointers. The team plays under coach Dejan Kostic in the Regionalliga West and reached in the 2008 /09 season the 4th place, but you missed at the end clearly a possible promotion to the Pro B.
