Vicar (comics)

Vicar, actually Victor Arriagada Rios José (* April 16, 1934 in Santiago de Chile, † January 3, 2012 ibid ) was a Chilean cartoonist who was known by the drawing of Donald Duck stories for Disney International.

Life

Model for Vicar was Carl Barks, who said himself that Vicar of all the Disney animators come closest to his style.

Vicar first completed a degree in electronics engineering and painted and drew only in his spare time. In 1957 he won the 1st prize in a drawing competition in journalism Association of Chile. This allowed him a job as a political cartoonist for the magazine Mercurio. His figure Ramón, an anti- hero, had his own series in the magazine for many years.

Between 1960 and 1975 he lived in Barcelona, where he worked for various magazines and publishers. During this period he also produced some stories of Barnaby Bear and drew for Playboy. 1971, the publishing house Egmont became aware of the draftsman and enabled him to work for Disney.

Following Vicar lived again in Santiago de Chile and was considered a prolific artist who created more than 10,000 pages alone for Disney. He excelled especially Donald Duck stories, where it comes to the everyday problems in Duckburg.

On January 3, 2012, he died after a long illness at the age of 77 years. He had been suffering for some time from leukemia.
