Victoria Pendleton

Victoria " Vicky " Pendleton CBE (born 24 September 1980 in Stotfold, England) is a former British cyclist. She is Olympic champion and multiple world champion in track cycling disciplines.

Sports career

Victoria Pendleton began early with the cycling, because she came from a family keen on cycling. At age nine, she began with her twin brother, Alex, to go cycling. At age 16, Pendleton was appointed to the British National team, they pulled it before but to study. From enthusiasm for the Olympic gold medal for Jason Queally at the Summer Olympic Games 2000 in Sydney, she decided during her studies, which she finished in 2002 for the track cycling. Over two seasons, she coached in the "World Cycling Centre 'of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI ) in Aigle under Frédéric Magné, a seven-time track world champion from France.

Pendleton won at the 2005 Track World Championships in Los Angeles their first title; it was the first title of a British woman for 40 years. At the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, she won a gold and a silver medal. In the UCI Track World Championships in 2007 she managed the hat-trick with three gold medals in the keirin, sprint and team sprint. For this she was ever elected in the United Kingdom as the first cyclist athlete Athlete of the Year. These successes could be confirmed by the 2008 Beijing Olympics with a gold medal in the individual sprint, the only discipline that has been offered for women in Beijing. For this she was awarded the MBE honor of Queen Elizabeth II. In the Track World Championships 2008 in Manchester Victoria Pendleton won two titles in the keirin and team sprint, and was both in 2009 as well as 2010 World Champion in the sprint. In the season 2010/2011 she decided the overall standings in the Sprint Track Cycling World Cup in itself.

In spring 2012, she won at the track world championships her sixth and seventh world title in the sprint and the team sprint ( with Jessica Varnish ). She was also vice-world champion in keirin.

At the 2012 Olympic Games in London Victoria Pendleton Olympic champion in the Keirin, Sprint they finished second behind the Australian Anna Meares. In the team sprint, she and Jessica Varnish relegated in the semifinals due to a faulty after they had initially attends this race victoriously. She finished, as previously announced, her career with the completion of the Olympic competitions in track cycling.

Honors

Vicky Pendleton was honored with induction into the Hall of Fame of the European Cycling Union Union Européenne de Cyclisme.
