Vilankulo
Province
Vilankulo (formerly Vilanculos ) is a coastal town in Mozambique Vilanculos District of Inhambane Province.
Population
Vilankulo has 40 048 inhabitants (2009 ). Many of the residents use the place name " Vilankulo " as a family name.
History
Vilankulo is named after the chief Vilankulo. Some of the " bairros " ( suburbs ) are named after his sons. During the colonial period, the name was changed to Vilanculos since the Portuguese use the letter K is not often and usually use the "sh " sound value of the letter S. After independence, the town's original name was restored. Today it is called the district Vilanculos and the town Vilankulo.
Economy
Vilankulo has an international airport, served by the regional targets from multiple, including Johannesburg, Maputo, Swaziland and Durban. Vilankulo has grown enormously during the last decade, and it is also significant recipients of foreign investment in its tourism infrastructure. Between the city and the Bazaruto Archipelago operate Daus.
Sports
There is a local football club, called Vilankulo Futebol Clube (VFC ) This is the first official club Vilankulos, which was recognized by the FMF ( Mozambican Football Federation).
