Viljandi County

The Viljandi County (Estonian Viljandi maakond or Viljandimaa ) is a county ( maakond ) in Estonia.

Geography

Viljandi is located in southern Estonia and borders the counties Pärnu, Järva, Jõgeva, Tartu and Valga.

Policy

Under a law of 13 December 1995, the governor is appointed in consultation with the local government on the recommendation of the Prime Minister.

Governor

The Governor directs the business of the district administration, represents the interests of the state and to ensure a balanced development of the circle. He coordinates the cooperation between the regional offices of ministries and other administrative authorities and the local government. He is also responsible for the distribution and use of state property in the district, approved the proposed budgets of state agencies and monitors compliance.

He supervises the work of the municipalities of the circle represents the county in court

The governor is the Government of the Republic of Estonia accountable on its activities.
