Villa Pueyrredón

Villa Pueyrredón is a neighborhood in the northwest of the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires. It has 40,000 inhabitants (as of 2001) on an area of 3.7 km ² and is bounded by the districts of Villa Urquiza, Villa Devoto, Coghlan and Agronomía. Villa Pueyrredón is a residential neighborhood of the middle class and upper middle class and is surrounded by plenty of squares and parks. The Ferrocarril General Bartolomé Mitre ( General Mitre railway company) connects Villa Pueyrredón with the Retiro Station.

History

The district takes its name from the railway station there first applied to the new railway line of the Ferrocarril Central Argentino, (now " Ferrocarril General Bartolomé Mitre "). First, the station was simply called " KM 14" ( 14 km ), but was then named in 1907 after Juan Martin de Pueyrredón. The inhabitants of the district were Italian and Spanish immigrants who worked on the " Great Rail project," one of the most important in South America.

Clubs, parks and squares

Villa Pueyrredón has numerous green spaces. The oldest, Plaza Leandro N. Alem, was inaugurated on 25 May 1921. It is located between the streets Larsen, Gral. J. Artigas, Zamudio and Cochrane. The place Nunca Más is 11,500 m² and is located between the streets Obispo San Alberto, Ladines, Jose L.Cabezon and Gral. Jose G. Artigas. He was originally named after General Eduardo Lonardi, but received its current name in memory of the disappeared of the military dictatorship. The largest square of the district is the Plaza Martin Rodríguez with 13,200 m². It was inaugurated in 1948 and is located between the streets Pareja, Habana, Helguera and Argerich.

The "Club Cultural y Deportivo 17 de Agosto " was founded in 1949. He is the most important club in the neighborhood and playing in the first futsal league.

The " Club Social Pueyrredón " was founded on June 1, 1927 and is located in 5540 Condarco Street. The " Club Social, Cultural y Deportivo Gloria " was founded on 16 September 1936. He now has his seat in the 4970 Caracas Street. In addition, there are two other sports clubs.
