Villa Romana prize

The Villa Romana is a building that is situated on a 14,500 m² plot of land on the Via Senese in Florence and was acquired in 1905 by Max Klinger for 60,000 gold liras. The Villa Romana Prize, which is awarded since 1905, is the oldest art prize in Germany.

Klinger taught there for the German Künstlerbund an artist a house, in particular, come under the scholarship of the Villa Romana Prize. 1906 in Leipzig, the Villa Romana club was founded in the Klinger Künstlerhaus Villa Romana earned. 1926, the club was re-established.
