Villeneuve- d'Amont is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Villeneuve- d'Amont is located at 680 m above sea level, about 24 km west of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on the high plateau of Villeneuve, south of the karst spring of Lison.

The area of ​​14.27 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Villeneuve, the second part of the Jura plateau, is on average 660 m and is mostly covered by meadows. The plateau is crossed by a dry valley, part of the upper catchment area of ​​Lison. The entire area has no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. The boundaries of the plateau of large expanses of forest in the west of the Bois de Chalem, to the east by the Forêt de Levier and in the south of the forest Forêt d' Arc. Here the highest elevation of Villeneuve- d'Amont is achieved with 727 m.

History

In the Middle Ages Villeneuve- d'Amont belonged to the rule Montmahoux, which was under the suzerainty of the lords of Chalon. With 273 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Villeneuve- d'Amont is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 to 375 people were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Villeneuve- d'Amont was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and animal husbandry, as well as by the forestry village.
