Vincent Schiavelli

Vincent Schiavelli ( born November 10, 1948 in Brooklyn, New York, † December 26, 2005 in Polizzi Generosa, Sicily, Italy ) was an American actor with Sicilian roots. He was particularly known for his roles in the films One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Ghost - Message from Sam.

Life

The 1.97 meter tall Schiavelli studied acting at New York University and began in the 1960s to work on the stage. The first film in which he starred, was in 1971 Miloš Forman's Taking Off. Through his talent and striking appearance, he secured other roles in films by Forman. On television, he starred in The Corner Bar for the first time in 1972. His role as a subway spirit in the hit movie Ghost (1990 ) brought him a lot of praise from the critics. Schiavelli has starred in over 150 films, often he embodied in his supporting roles rather eccentric or fear -inspiring characters. In general, these were " small gigs " almost to its own trademark. So Schiavelli was also seen in an episode of Star Trek as well as in James Bond and Amadeus. 1997 elected him the magazine Vanity Fair one of the best American character actor.

He was also the author of cookbooks and has written articles in cooking magazines. In 2001 he received the Journalism Award of the James Beard Foundation.

1985 Schiavelli married his first wife, the actress Allyce Beasley (born 1954 ). From this marriage that ended in divorce in 1988, was son Andrea bold (* Sept. 1987). On 23 October 1992 he married the musician Carol Sue Mukhalian, a concert harpist of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and composer. Schiavelli had settled on Sicily, Polizzi Generosa, the hometown of his grandparents. He led most recently also theater director. Schiavelli died of lung cancer. He was an honorary chairman of the National Marfan Foundation.
