History

Prove the findings from the transition period between the Bronze Age and Iron Age, that lived near Višnja Gora Illyrians and Celts. Finds are in the Slovenian People's Museum.

On the territory of the present-day city was in Roman times the military settlement Magnisna. In the few decades, water pipes were opened in Višnja Gora built by the Romans. An early mention of the castle takes place in 1152 in connection with a donation to Parakeet: One of the witnesses is Meginhalmus de Wisilpurc. The first settlement, the Old Market ( " Stari trg " ), is mentioned in written sources until the year 1269. The settlement has remained preserved and is located under the hill. Even then Višnja Gora had its own seal and some trading rights. King Frederick III. has Višnja Gora was proclaimed in 1444 as a place. Because of the increasingly frequent Turkish attacks, the town was laid on the higher hills. There the protection systems were built, which were also one of the reasons why Friedrich III. announced on July 9, 1478 the then municipal rights. The other reason was the important geographical location in battle against the Turkish attacks. From the medieval settlement some protection systems and walls as well as the ruins of the " Old Fortress " from the 11th century have been preserved.
