Vito De Grisantis

Vito De Grisantis ( born August 20, 1941 in Lecce, † April 1, 2010 Tricase ) was Roman Catholic bishop of Ugento - Santa Maria di Leuca.

Life

Vito De Grisantis studied Catholic theology at the diocesan seminary of Molfetta. He was with a thesis on marriage and family at the John Paul II Institute of the Lateran University Dr. theol. doctorate and was a lecturer at the College of Religious Studies in Lecce. He was ordained priest on 27 June 1965. From 1975 to 2000 he was pastor of St. Rose in Lecce and taught at the Liceo Scientifico " C. De Giorgi ". He became known for his commitment to microcredit for the poorest segments of the population.

De Grisantis was appointed bishop of Ugento - Santa Maria di Leuca of Pope John Paul II on 13 May 2000. He received his episcopal consecration on 29 July of the same year the Archbishop of Palermo, Cardinal Salvatore De Giorgi; Were co-consecrators Cosmo Francesco Ruppi, Archbishop of Lecce, and Domenico Caliandro, Bishop of Nardo - Gallipoli.
