Life

Bird learned briefly at the film laboratory in Moscow before he came in Lev Kuleshov's master class and studied drama. There Kuleshov taught the design of directing and acting according to the principles of the eccentricity and psycho- mechanics. For bird fellow students included the directors Vsevolod Pudovkin and later Boris Barnet, as well as the actress Alexandra Khokhlova.

Kuleshov sat his students in his films and bird therefore had his acting debut in 1924 in a Kuleshov film. Bird played in his short career in 14 films varied genres - including melodrama, parody, intimate play and grotesque - and is considered one of the most important actors of the Russian experimental film of its time. In 1928 he appeared in the first German -Soviet co-production by Grigori Roshal Salamander. 1929 celebrated bird, which was for some time mentally ill, committed suicide.
