Vladimir Toporov

Vladimir Nikolayevich Toporow (Russian: Владимир Николаевич Топоров; born July 5, 1928 in Moscow, † December 5, 2005 ) was a Russian language and religious scholars.

His research interests were mainly the comparative historical linguistics with a focus on Indo-European, Slavic, Baltic studies, further semiotics, structure of texts, especially in poetry, continues the history of religion and mythology.

Conferred on him the National Award in 1990 he was given the bloody events on January 13, back in 1991 in Vilnius. Toporow was, inter alia, winner of the Solzhenitsyn Prize. Vilnius University awarded him an honorary doctorate.
