Vlčí hora from the north, views of Panský

The Vlčí hora ( German Wolfsberg, 581 m) is one of the most prominent mountains in the Bohemian Netherlands ( Šluknovsko ) in the Czech Republic.

Location

The Vlčí hora is located in the Bohemian Lower land six kilometers west of Rumburk directly on the edge of the forest and rocky landscape of the Bohemian Switzerland. Immediately at the foot of it houses the local Stare Křečany (Alt Ehrenberg ) and the district Brtníky ( Zeidler ) and to Krasna Lipa ( Schönlinde ) associated districts Sněžná ( Schnauhübel ) Vlčí Hora ( Wolfsberg ) Zahrady ( gardens). The summit is crowned by a former mountain cottage with a lookout tower. At the eastern foot of the mountains is the fountain Veronika ( Verunčina studánka ). Just north of the mountain is the source of the Mandau.

History

The mountain chalet at the summit was built in 1887 by the Mountain Club of the northern Bohemia. To transport the building material to the top, at the time, each hiker was asked, ever take a brick to the summit. 1888, the Baude was complemented by the existing to date stone lookout tower. Later, the once simple block house was extended to a handsome cottage with surrounding veranda. In 1904, the Baude the name Ferdinand -Michel- house.

In contrast to all other mountain chalets of northern Bohemia, the cottage survived the war and postwar years. After 1945, the Baude was initially empty. From 1952 to 1957 she was used by the Czechoslovak army. Since 1972, the Baude is privately owned.

The observation tower was set from 1996 to 1999 with funds from the city Krasna Lipa and sponsorship fully repaired and is once again open to the public. Since January 1999, the city Krasna Lipa is the owner of the observation tower.

Geology

The Vlčí hora is located approximately one kilometer northeast of the Lusatian fault in the Lusatian granite region. The tip is formed from a nepheline Feldspatbasalt which caused by its high magnetite content a strong deviation of the compass needle.

From the tower a very comprehensive panoramic view is possible. In the southwest, the view over the mountains of the Saxon-Bohemian Switzerland to Milešovka ( Milleschauer ) in the Bohemian Central Mountains. In the south, the jagged chain of mountains cone of the Lusatian Mountains with Studenec ( Cold Mountain ), Jedlova ( Tannenberg ), Listen and Hochwald is located. In the east, showing the mountains of the Iser, ridge and Giant Mountains. Strikingly there the slim Ještěd ( ridge) with its unusual tower and wide then stored Smrk ( Tafelfichte ). In the far east ( High Rad) are visible on a clear day Szrenica ( Reif carrier ) and Vysoke Kolo.
