Vojkov

Vojkov ( German Wojkau ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located 19 kilometers south-west of Benešov and belongs to Okres Benešov.

Geography

Vojkov is located in the north of Středočeská pahorkatina right side above the valley of Mastník. North-east rises the V Hoře (524 m) and in the northwest of Sychrov ( 479 m). North of the village runs the railway line Olbramovice - Sedlčany where is the station Štětkovice in Sedlečko.

Neighboring towns are Sedlečko in the north, Minartice and Voračice in the northeast, Bezmíř in the east, Klokočov, Křenovice and Drábův Mlýn in the southeast, Podolí in the south, Vysoká and Vrbsky Mlýn in the southwest, Pojezdec, Vyšatoly and Kosova Hora in the west and Borena Hora in the northwest.

History

Vojkov was first mentioned in 1350 as the seat of a Vladiken Vojek documented. To the medieval festivals was a settlement in the 14th century, the church of St. James was built.

At the beginning of the 17th century acquired Sezima Vrtbovská of the rule and closed it at Cerveny Hradek on.

After the abolition of patrimonial Vojkov formed with the districts Bezmíř, Křenovice, Minartice, Podolí, Sledovice, Voračice and Zahrádka 1848 a municipality in the district Selt Chan. 1921 emerged the communities Bezmíř with Lhotka, Voračice and Zahrádka and Minartice with Sledovice. In 1961, Bezmíř and Minartice incorporated including their districts and the community Vojkov came to Okres Benešov.

The municipality consists of the villages Vojkov Bezmíř ( Besmirsch ) Křenovice ( Kschenowitz ) Lhotka ( Kleinlhota ) Minartice ( Minartitz ) Podolí ( Podol ) Sledovice ( Sledowitz ) Vojkov ( Wojkau ) Voračice ( Woratschitz ) and Zahrádka ( Sachradka ).

Attractions

  • Vojkov Castle, the castle formed from the 14th- century fortress was adjusted in Classicism in the 19th century. It now serves as a retirement home.
  • Pilgrimage Church of St. James, built in the 14th century. In the church a baptismal font is in the Renaissance style, which was manufactured in the second half of the 16th century of the Prague bell foundry Brikcí of Cimperk
