Vsevolod II of Kiev

Vsevolod II Olgowitsch (* 1104, † 1146 ), 1139-1146 Grand Duke of Kievan Rus, grandson and successor of Sviatoslav II Jaropolk II as Grand Duke.

Prior to his reign as Kievan Grand Prince Vsevolod ruled in Chernigov. The power in Kiev, he won in a phase of fierce fighting in the Rurik Dynasty and the decline of Kievan Rus. Apparently, he took the view that Kiev is a heritage of the Chernigov princes. He met with fierce resistance of the urban population, which expelled him from Kiev and Volhynia princes Izjaslav Mstislavich started in his place as Grand Duke.
