Waalwijk

( Listen? / I ) Waalwijk is a municipality in the Netherlands, North Brabant province. The area is approximately 67.7 km ², the population of 46 449 (as of 1 January 2013).

The municipality belongs to the main town of the same name, as well as the villages Waspik and Sprang -Capelle. It is striking that the latter village, has, unlike the other places in the community, a predominantly Protestant population. That's because it belongs to about 1800 to the province of South Holland.

The Westphalian Unna is the German sister city of Waalwijk.

Location and economic

The former city of Waalwijk, which passed in 1232 from Holland to Brabant and 1303 became a town located north of Tilburg in the named after an old, long road towards' s- Hertogenbosch region Langstraat that from time immemorial the center of the Dutch shoe and leather industry. The Waalwijker leather and shoe factories import their products now, including Italian. The proximity to the Meuse this industry has always encouraged. There are several others in Waalwijk, especially small industrial, commercial, and service companies.

Waalwijk is located just off the A59 and has two highway exits. Thus, one can reach the city quickly. To the east is just a few minutes ' s- Hertogenbosch.

Attractions

  • Only about 4 kilometers to the south lies the amusement park " De Efteling ".
  • In Waalwijk is the Dutch Leather and Shoe Museum.
  • The place has two beautiful churches: the Reformed Church in the center, built in 1450-1520, and the new Roman Catholic Church (1926 ) in Byzantine style.
  • In Sprang -Capelle the beautiful old church of St. Nicholas (15th century) is a mighty tower. Only occasionally to visit.
  • Sprang -Capelle also has an eye-catching, newly restored windmill.
  • In Waalwijk professional football club RKC Waalwijk is (Eredivisie ) at home.
  • In the near Waalwijk and the Efteling Nature Park " Loonsche Drunensche en Duinen " is (forest, heath, sand dunes).
