Characteristics of style

In Wado - Ryu, the energy of the attack by deflecting and dodging will come to nothing left and subsequently or simultaneously by levers countered throw, kick or beat techniques. The technical design is subject to the following principles:

  • Sanmi Ittai - Each technique in Wado - Ryu ( Ten gi ) includes simultaneously a change in the position ( i Ten ) and a weight transfer of the body ( Ten -tai )
  • Execution of all movements to avoid the following error: No false or unnecessary technology, no wasted movement, no unnecessary effort
  • Control of its own center of gravity
  • Tai Sabaki - leaving the line of scrimmage by Dodge
  • Defense of an attack and counterattack occur simultaneously ( no loss )
  • Kyusho - techniques aimed at vital points of the attacker
  • Smooth transitions between the different techniques

Visually differences compared to other styles such as Shotokan Katas conspicuous in the Wado - Ryu katas have a lighter, less powerful appearance and are economical in movement. Defense techniques not block an opponent's attack, but steer around it.

  • The attack " caused to flow " ( Nagasu ), such as in Kihon Kumite Nanahonme (No. 7)
  • " redirect " the attack ( inasu ), as in Kihon Kumite eg Ipponme (No.1 )
  • The attack " go in " or " go along " ( noru ), such as in Kihon Kumite Sanbonme (No. 3)

The importance Urgussform or template of the Kata in Shotokan Wado - Ryu he replaced in importance by the symbol. This is not to be the goal of the practitioner is always the same shape of the kata, but changes of the kata are allowed by age and other individual characteristics of the karateka and even encouraged.
