Waldkirchen–Haidmühle railway

The railway Forest Church Haidmuehle was a branch line in Bavaria. They ran from the woods after Haidmuehle churches in the Bohemian Forest, where he held following the route Haidmuehle - Wallern the former United Šumava local railways. They branched into forest churches of the branch line from Passau Freyung ( Ilztalbahn ). The last part Streckewald Church Jandelsbrunn was finally decommissioned on 1 October 1995 and later completely dismantled.

History

After 1892 already the Passau - Freyung was completed, efforts were made in other municipalities around a rail connection. So in 1895 founded the Railway Committee Breiteberg that tried to build a railway line forest churches, Neureichenau, Breiteberg up to Aigen - Schlaegl with merging with the local Mühlkreisbahn. From Bohemian side, Wallerner railway commission, which opened in 1900 to connect the railway line from Prachatice to Volary with the Bavarian routes sought. It was decided after tough negotiations for the connection to the Czech Republic and made the connection to Austria fall. On 14 July 1903, the first meeting of the communities took place along the route.

On 10 August 1904, the Bavarian government approved the construction of a 26.9 km long branch line from Forest churches to the Czech border behind Haidmuehle and took over the financing. A return had not been calculated for the 3.6- million mark route, it was built because of the connection to the Czech railway network. It was completed in early November 1910. After a test train on 8 November, the track was officially opened on 15 November 1910. By concluded with Austria on November 22, 1904 State Treaty this branch line Haidmuehle Black Cross was awarded in Haidmuehle after those in Bohemia to be built by the United Šumava Lokalbahnen AG branch line (Czech: Černý Kříž ) with connections to Winterberg (Bohemia ) ( tschech. : Vimperk ) Prachatitz ( tschech: Prachatice ) and Cesky Krumlov ( tschech.: Český Krumlov). Station building and goods shed in Haidmuehle were shared by two railway administrations and the customs authorities.

The route led from the forest churches initially in an easterly direction Neureichenau and then further to the north east to the border station, between forest churches and the highest point in Fraunberg a height difference of 330 meters had to be overcome, including lost slopes even 346 m. In the first years of operation and after the forcible annexation of the Sudetenland, the through trains from Passau ran after Haidmuehle while the Freyunger route received in forest Churches connection.

Considerations of the Czech side to extend the route again until after Haidmuehle to there to make a better connection to the Bavarian buses were now discarded. During the travel times of Ilztalbahn the gap between forest churches and Nové Údolí by a bus line is closed.

Between the Nové Údolí Station (German: Neuthal ) and the end of the frontier bridge in Germany, there is a railway museum, which is housed in three old freight cars and track tells the story. There is also the pošumavská jižní dráha ( PJD ), which describes itself as an international shortest railway in the world.

Train services

Because of the low permissible axle pressure on side train tracks ran on the routes of the Bavarian local railway locomotives. Especially in freight transport, the Bavarian BBII - Malletlokomotiven, series 98.7 were doing from Bw Passau, used on both routes. From the early 1930s drove up to the beginning of World War II and two-axle diesel railcars of series 135 and 137 and the matching sidecar to Freyung and Haidmuehle. In addition, 70.0 (Pt 2/3) is reported from the use of steam locomotives of the BR.

After the route reorganization and strengthening of the superstructure took locomotives of the BR 64 ( for passenger transport ) and the BR 86 ( for freight ), and later diesel engines running trains. In passenger rail cars were used.

Decommissioning and decay

With the establishment of the Iron Curtain was on the track forest Churches - Haidmuehle 60 m rail away on the Czech side. Thus, the importance of this route section sank quickly, so here only held shuttles and all trains from Passau drove to Freyung. On June 1, 1958, to the first restrictions for passenger services, which was then completely set on May 26, 1963 - after last intercourse only a Schienenbuspaar per working day. Between Haidmuehle and Jandelsbrunn the freight on 31 December 1975 and between Jandelsbrunn forest and churches were set on 1 October 1995. This caused the caravan manufacturer Knaus Tabbert in Jandelsbrunn to last for freight traffic. 1998 recommissioning was investigated in a study by the BEG. Here only ridership of each working day 760 were determined. The cost of a reconstruction of the leg Jandelsbrunn - Haidmuehle were estimated at DM 35 million ( 17.9 million euros ). The Federal Railway Authority, therefore, agreed to the closure of the railway line on July 5, 1995. This was completed on 1 October 1995. With a decision of the Federal Railway Office of 16 May 2001, the stretch of forest Churches ( 0,150 km ) to Jandelsbrunn ( 8,756 km ) was deconsecrated May 18, 2001.

After the dismantling of the track was built on the route of the Adalbert-Stifter- cycle path to Haidmuehle. Between Haidmuehle and Nove UDOLI was built on a portion of the embankment of the sewage treatment plant Haidmuehle.

In the course of reactivation of the railway route from Passau to Freyung and the concomitant " Danube - Vltava composite " was a parallel to the former railway line running bus route established between forest churches and Nove UDOLI will be created in the connection between trains of Ilztalbahn GmbH and the Czech Railways.
