Waldo Ponce (2011)

Waldo Alonso Ponce Carrizo ( born December 4, 1982 in Los Andes ) is a Chilean football player. Since 2008, the defender is at the Argentine club Velez Sarsfield CA under contract. For the 2010 season he was loaned to Chilean club CD Universidad Católica.

Career

Association

Ponce began his career in 2001 in the Chilean top club CF Universidad de Chile. With good performances he soon also European teams attention to itself. Already in 2003 it came to lending between Universidad and VfL Wolfsburg. His debut in the Bundesliga was Ponce on Matchday 6 of the 2003/04 season, when coach Jurgen Rober einwechselte him in the game against 1.FC Cologne in the 76th minute for Fernando Baiano. It was followed by four more league appearances and an insert in the DFB - Pokal for the defensive player before he moved in the summer of 2005, after Chile. In all games for the Wolves Ponce came on and came to a total of only 81 minutes of play. After his return to Ponce established again at Universidad and was once again a regular player. 2005 abolished the team a place in the final of the Clausura, but had to admit defeat against CD Universidad Católica. As in the regular season and extension decided a winner, the game was decided by penalty kick, which missed the decisive Ponce and his team thus lost the game.

2008, drew the defenders abroad again, but remained in South America and signed with CA Velez Sarsfield in Argentina. Due to some injuries Ponce came too little match practice at the beginning. After Hernán Pellerano left the club, his situation improved and Ponce was a regular player during the first round in 2008 /09. After an injury during a match with the national team the defensive player lost his place to Nicolás Otamendi, who replaced him as a central defender. After Otamendi performed well and was appointed even in the squad of the Argentinean country selection, remained for Ponce usually only bets on unfamiliar positions. At the end of the season Sarsfield won the Clausura. In order to get more playing time again, decided the Vélez- Ponce responsible for the 2010 season in his home country to lend Universidad Católica.

National

Ponce made ​​his debut in the Chilean national team in 2006 in a series of friendly matches. His first international game, he completed it on 27 April 2006 in a match against New Zealand. The following year he was appointed by then- coach Nelson Acosta in the squad for the Copa America 2007. Due to an injury, however, Ponce had to cancel. In the following years he ran regularly as a regular player and qualified with the team for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, for which the defender was appointed in May 2010 in the cadre of Chileans.
