Wallisellen–Uster–Rapperswil railway line

The Glatthalbahn ( Gl- TB) is a former railway company of Switzerland. Your standard-gauge railway line Wallisellenstrasse -Uster in the canton of Zurich. The extremely short-lived company went nine months after the opening of its range on 1 May 1857 in the United Swiss Railways ( VSB) on.

History

The industrialists in Uster had fought in the mid-19th century passionately for a railway line. On August 1, 1856 had come: Glatthalbahn opened the route Wallisellenstrasse - examination. However, there was no money for the continued construction of the route to the east. On September 4, 1856, the merger of the Glatt valley railway with the St. Gallo- Appenzell Railway and the South Eastern Railway to the United Swiss Railways ( VSB) was decided. This funding was secured and the continuing construction on 9 November 1857, the VSB was able to open the section to Wetzikon. On August 15, 1858 the section was taken by Ruti ZH and on 15 February 1859, the sequel about Rapperswil to Weesen in operation.

From 1884 to 1902 the Arlberg Express perverted from Zurich to Vienna via the Glatthalbahnstrecke. 1902, the VSB was nationalized and the SBB took over the business. October 2, 1932, the route is electrified.

On February 18, 1979, the Canton Zurich electorate approved a contribution of CHF 49.6 million for the double-track extension of Glatthalbahn. The expansion began in October 1980. On 31 July 1983, the first section of Wallisellenstrasse to Dübendorf could be put into operation. Since September 30, 1984, the entire route Wallisellenstrasse - type may be driven on two tracks. With the construction of the S -Bahn Zurich a link to the Zurich mountain line was created. The branch is located between Wallisellenstrasse and Dübendorf and has been officially commissioned on 27 May 1990. While the branch on the new line on the Neugutviadukt done without crossing, it is on a normal Glatthalbahnstrecke Weichenverbindung that also crosses the opposite track.

Operation

The Glatttalstrecke is now traversed by the lines S 5, S 9, S 14 and S 15 of the Zurich S-Bahn. The SN5 of CRVO - night network operates from Zurich HB on Stadelhofen to Rapperswil.
