Walter Dubislav

Walter Dubislav (born 20 September 1895 in Berlin, † September 17, 1937 in Prague ) was a German philosopher of science.

After studying mathematics (including with David Hilbert ) and the philosophy doctorate Dubislav 1922 in Berlin with a thesis contributions to the study of the definition and the evidence from the standpoint of mathematical logic. In 1928, he was Associate Professor of Philosophy of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the Technical University of Berlin and in 1931 associate professor. In 1936 he emigrated.

He was co-founder of the Berlin Society for Empirical Philosophy and was a friend of Theodor W. Adorno.

Dubislav has engaged in a logical and epistemological foundations of mathematics and physics, leaning against Bernard Bolzano. Dubislav represents a formalistic version of Frege's definition of teaching. Definitions are therefore substitution rules for characters, ie arbitrary agreements on the use of characters within a calculus.
