Walter Hörmann

Walter Hörmann (* September 13, 1961 in Vienna) is a former Austrian football player and current coach. He has also stood in 2012 at TSV Hartberg under contract.

Playing career

His football career began at the age of nine years at Rieger castle. At 14, he moved to Field Creek in the Styrian League, where he made his debut at age 16 in the first team. In 1980 he moved to SK Sturm Graz. In the season 1980/1981 under coach Otto Baric he was runner-up. His team debut came on 2 May 1984 against Cyprus. After five years in a storm in 1985, he moved to Switzerland to FC St. Gallen. After two years in Switzerland, he returned in 1987 after Austria to Austria Vienna. With Austria Wien he reached two league titles and two cup victories. After five years in Austria, he made his comeback with his first professional club SK Sturm Graz. In 1996 he moved to SV Austria Salzburg, where he was able to record under coach Heribert Weber his last major success by winning the Austrian Championship title. After two successful years at the Salzach he went to FC Kärnten and then to DSV Leoben. Hörmann played 15 caps for the Austrian national team and completed 429 missions in the Bundesliga.

Coaching career

Hörmann began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Austria Vienna. As the former head coach Arie Haan was released in 2001, Hörmann took over together with his former team-mate Anton Pfeffer as equal trainer training the first team.

After the duo was released after half a year, he joined in March 2002 in the Principality of Liechtenstein and took over the FC Vaduz, who was engaged in the second Swiss league. Quasi in a double role, he led from July 2003 also the games as coach of the Liechtenstein national football team and led the amateurs almost to their first victory.

January 2004, he accepted the offer of Austria Salzburg to becoming a coach there, but was released after two games and high losses.

In the season 2004/ 05 he was a coach at FC Wil in the Challenge League. In the summer of 2006, he took over the Austrian regional league and runner of the season 2005/ 06 SKN St. Polten. On August 3, 2006, he was the coach diploma examination. After the winter break 2006/ 07 only accommodate 7 was reached and had several players left the club, he was released on his request, under the contract. On 1 February 2007 Walter Hörmann took over at SK Sturm Graz the post of sports co-ordinator. From 27 April 2007 to June 2008, he was sports director and after the dismissal of former team manager Hans Lang solely responsible for the fate of the Graz at manager level.

By 2010, Hörmann was sports director at SC Rheindorf Altach; from 1 April 2012 until June of that year officiated Hörmann as coach of TSV Hartberg.

Walter Hörmann is married to his second wife and has two children.
