Rieger Castle is a market town with 2322 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) under the same castle in the southeast of Styria in the district of Southeastern Styria. From 1 January 2015 it is merged in the Styrian municipality structural reform with the municipalities of Breitenfeld on the Rittschein, Lödersdorf and Kornberg at Rieger Castle, the new community will be called "Rieger castle ".

Geography
Geographical Location
Rieger castle is located about 39 kilometers east of Graz and about 7 km northeast of the regional capital of field stream nestled in the rolling hills of the Styrian volcano land in the East Styrian Hill Country. From far away visible, the mighty basalt rock with the best preserved castle in Styria over the place rises.

History
The timing of the market survey is not known.
Religions
The mother parish Rieger castle was created as one of the oldest parishes of Eastern Styria, around the year 1140. The first religious building of Riegersburg was a first time in 1170 mentioned, small Magdalene Church on the east side of the castle rock next to the former main parsonage. The construction of the present parish church of St. Martin was started as a late-Gothic building at the south-facing castle rising in 1481 under Reinprecht of empires castle, but had to be discontinued in 1500 for lack of funds.
