Walter Stewart, 3rd High Steward of Scotland

Walter Stewart II ( FitzAlan ) ( * ca 1198; † ca 1246 ) was a Scottish nobleman from the House of Stuart and 3rd High Stewart of Scotland.

Walter Stewart II was the son of Alan Stewart, 2nd High Steward of Scotland and his wife Alesta of Mar. He succeeded his father in 1204 as 3rd High Steward of Scotland. The first of the family, he took the name of Stewart and of Dundonald was called. He was Justiciar of Scotland.

He married Beatrix ( Bethóc ), daughter of Gilchrist, 4th Earl of Angus, with whom he had the following children:

  • Euphemia ( † ca 1267 ), married Patrick, 5th Earl of Dunbar
  • Margaret ( * ca 1206), married Niall, Earl of Carrick
  • Elizabeth ( * ca 1210), married Maldouen, 3rd Earl of Lennox
  • Alexander Stewart, 4th High Steward of Scotland
  • John († 1249 ), allegedly killed at Damietta on the sixth Crusade
  • Walter (ca. 1218-1296 ), Earl of Menteith, married Mary, daughter and heiress of Maurice, 3rd Earl of Menteith.
  • Sybilla, married Colin Fitzgerald, 1st Lord of Kintail
