Wangenried

Wangenried is a municipality in the Oberaargau the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Cheeks Ried is located on 473 m above sea level. M., 2 km south of the district town Wangen an der Aare and 9 km east of the town of Solothurn (air line). The village street lines extending at an inclined towards the northwest slope, on the southern edge of the Aareniederung, in the Upper Aargau.

Population

410 people (as of 31 December 2012) Wangenried is one of the small communities of the Canton of Bern. Of the residents 97.9 % are German, 0.8 % Italian-speaking and 0.5 % speak French (as of 2000). The population of Wangenried amounted in 1850 to 415 residents in 1900 to 332 inhabitants. After a slight population increase to 1950 (381 inhabitants), the population commutes ever since in the range 370-410 people.

Economy

Wangenried was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming and fruit growing and cattle breeding have an important place in the economic structure of the population. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the region Langenthal - Herzogenbuchsee, in the Solothurn area and in the larger towns along the Jurasüdfusses.

Traffic

The community is conveniently comparatively quite well developed. It lies on the main road from Wangen an der Aare Herzogenbuchsee, but has a local bypass road. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1407 under the name Ried. Later, the names cheeks Ried ( 1442 ) and Waggenried published (1784 ). The place name is derived from the Old High German word Riod ( clearing).

Since the Middle Ages Wangenried belonged to the provost's cheeks and was under the suzerainty of Kyburg. In 1406 the village was ruled by the city of Bern and was assigned to the result of the bailiwick cheeks. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ) Wangenried belonged during the Helvetic Republic to the district from 1803 to the cheeks and upper cheeks Office, which received the status of an office district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831.

Attractions

The village has preserved many characteristic farmhouses of the Bernese country style from the 18th and 19th centuries. Wangenried does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish cheeks.
