Warnow, Nordwestmecklenburg

Warnow is a municipality in the northern part of the North West in Mecklenburg -Vorpommern ( Germany ). It is by the Office Grevesmühlen country located in the town of Greve mills, which forms an administrative fellowship with the Office managed.

Geography

The community Warnow ranges from Santower lake on the northern outskirts of Greve mills over the eastern part of the Klützer angle to within a few kilometers of the Baltic Sea coast ( well-Wiek ) approach. The Hanseatic city of Wismar is located about 23 km from Warnow. The area lies in the future conservation area Nordwestmecklenburgisches hill country, with 51 m above sea level. NN is reached the greatest height at Thorstorf.

For Warnow today also includes the formerly independent villages Bössow, Ghent Beck, Grossenhof and Thorstorf as districts.

History

The village Warnow had at the time of the 1890 census total of 387 residents who lived in 58 houses. These were among 14 leasehold farms, 19 Büdnereien and 17 cottagers. Bössow at the time had 101 inhabitants in 18 houses. In Gantenbek 53 people lived in four houses. For Thorstorf 70 inhabitants were counted in five houses.

In the 1660 built on the ruins of a knight's castle mansion Grossenhof after 1945 a hostel was located. The estate belonged to the noble family of widely branched Mecklenburg Plessen who also owned the nearby Good Damshagen.

Thorstorf was first mentioned in 1279. The place name is of Slavic origin and means as much as Krähenort. In the 16th century it was the seat of a branch of the family of Bassewitz. Later, it was domain; the present manor house dates from the 18th century and was extensively renovated in 2000.

The community has become in recent years into an attractive residential location, including proximity to the town of Greve mills on the one hand and the close proximity of the Baltic Sea beaches between Bolton and High churches contributed the other.
