Water polo at the 1996 Summer Olympics
The XXVI. 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta a competitive water polo took place. Venue was the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.
Tournament
Directly qualified for the Olympic tournament were the five best teams in the World Cup tournament in Atlanta from 12 to 17 September 1995 ( Hungary, Italy, Russia, Spain, Croatia), were added the USA as host. A qualifying tournament in Berlin from 10th to February 18th 1996 decided on the six other starting places. Here, Yugoslavia, Greece, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Germany and Romania prevailed.
The four best teams from both preliminary groups made it to the quarter-finals. The fifth- and sixth- binned teams played a round for places 9-12.
