Watts Humphrey

Watts Sherman Humphrey ( born July 4, 1927 in Battle Creek, Michigan, † October 28, 2010 in Sarasota, Florida) was an American computer scientist and an authority in the field of software process improvement. In addition, he was also a longtime senior manager in the field of software development at IBM.

He was responsible among other things for the development of the Capability Maturity Model ( CMM short ) and software development methods Personal Software Process ( SM) and Team Software Process (SM). Under his leadership, the software developed by IBM in the late 1960s, the first software licenses were introduced.

Humphrey was a fellow of the Software Engineering Institute ( SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh. For his services he was awarded in 2003 by George W. Bush, the National Medal of Technology.
