Weiler, Cochem-Zell

Weiler is a municipality in the district Cochem-Zell, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality elms and is a recognized tourist destination.

Geography

Hamlet is in the Vordereifel to 390 m above sea level. NN.

History

Hamlet was founded in the 7/8 Century. The first written record comes from the year 1017. The place was probably 1294 verlehnt to the Electorate of Trier, the high court was, however, between the city of Cochem court and the high court Lutzerath centuries controversial. In the Thirty Years' War, the village was burned down. With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops ended the rule Kurtriers. 1815 it to the Congress of Vienna was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia. Since 1946, the hamlet is part of the then new state of Rhineland- Palatinate.

Parish council

The local council in hamlet consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Personalities

  • Bernhard Stein was a professor of Biblical Studies and 1967-1980 Bishop of Trier. He was born as the eighth of eleven children of the village school teacher Nicholas Stein and his wife Maria Eva Stein born Kessler in Weiler.
