The Weilberg is 701 m above sea level. NN is the fourth highest mountain in the Taunus.

Location

The Weilberg is the highest point extending from the south in the Feldberg area NNW-trending Feldberg- long-necked horse head plaice and is also the highest mountain of the Eastern Hintertaunus.

The Weilberg belongs to the municipality of Schmitten and is located at the hamlet Niederreifenberg. The name refers to the Weil, which flows at the foot of the mountain.

Former ski jump

1957 was built with the support of stationed at Sandplacken units of the U.S. Army, a ski jump. An approximately 15 meter high wooden tower provided the necessary start-up speed. Outlet was on the present site of the Shepherd Dog Club Niederreifenberg above the primary school Reifenberg and quad circuit of Niederreifenberg. The jump allowed jumps to about 40 meters. In the winter of 1962 /63 Hessian Championships Nordic combined was held on Weilberg.

In 1964, the ski jump for 50,000 marks by the Hessian Ski Federation has been renovated. On the new hill a hill record of 52 meters was measured in 1971. In the same year, the hill was closed after the accident. A 16 -year-old Springer lost a ski, fell and remained paraplegic. The subsequent investigation found design flaws, the ski jump was closed and later dismantled.
