Weißenbach am Lech

Weissenbach am Lech is a municipality in the district of Reutte, Tyrol ( Austria ) with 1260 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013).

Geography

The long place Weissenbach is located at the confluence of Tannheimer valley in the Lech Valley, at the foot of Gaichtpass. There, open the Weissbach ( from Tannheimertal ) and the Rotlech in Lech.

History

A Roman period grave discovery in Weißenbacher Oberhof is evidence of an early significance of the place. Weissbach was first documented in the year 1200. During the Middle Ages led the salt route from Hall in Tirol via Gaichtpass Tannheimer valley and on to the Lake Constance area. The district is located at the entrance of Gaicht Tannheimer Valley.

Economy and infrastructure

Being close to ten kilometers away town of Reutte and resulted in a stronger growth of settlements, some industrial and commercial areas have settled in the town. A special feature is the only mineable gypsum deposits in Tyrol on Gaichtpass which is processed by the company Gipswerk Schretter & Cie GesmbH headquartered in Vils to stucco and plaster of construction on site.

A bypass road relieves Weissbach from traffic by the Lech.
