Welschneudorf

Welschneudorf is a municipality and a tourist resort in the Westerwald district in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Montabaur.

Geography

The municipality is located in Unterwesterwald between Koblenz and Limburg an der Lahn in the Nassau Nature Park. Neighboring municipalities are Arzbach in the West, Oberelbert in the north, to the southeast and Hübingen Room difference in the south.

To Welschneudorf includes the residential places Good Tiergarten and Stelzenbachhof.

History

The place was first mentioned in documents as Nudorff in 1453. The area belonged to the Roman Empire, as it is directly located at the west limit ( today traces and remains in the forest visible). Walloon immigrants populated the run-down village after the Thirty Years' War, calling it " nova villa ," from which gradually Neudorf and finally Welschneudorf was. In Kurtrier time they built here a hunting arsenal, now a half as a church. In 1795 the town was completely destroyed by the retreating troops of France.
