Wesley A. D'Ewart

Wesley Abner D' Ewart ( born October 1, 1889 in Worcester, Massachusetts, † September 2, 1973 in Livingston, Montana ) was an American politician. Between 1945 and 1955 he represented the state of Montana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years

Wesley D' Ewart attended the public schools in Worcester and then the Washington State College. In 1910 he moved to the Park County, Montana. There he worked in the Forest Service. He also dealt with the animal husbandry and was a farmer and businessman.

Rise in Congress

Politically D' Ewart was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1937 and 1939 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Montana, from 1941 to 1945 he was a member of the State Senate. After the death of Congressman James F. O'Connor on January 15, 1945 by-election for the seat become vacant in the U.S. House of Representatives took place, the D' Ewart could decide for themselves. After he was confirmed in the following years, each in his office, Wesley D' Ewart could remain between 5 June 1945 and January 3, 1955 at the Congress. In 1954, he did not run for the House of Representatives. Instead, he applied unsuccessfully for a seat in the U.S. Senate.

Between 1955 and 1958, D' Ewart worked for both the agricultural as well as the Ministry of Interior of the United States. In 1960, he ran unsuccessfully for the office of Governor of Montana. He had already failed in the primaries of his party to Donald Grant Nutter. From 1966 to 1969 D' Ewart was a member of a commission of the western states of the U.S., which dealt with the issues of water ( Water Council ). Wesley D' Ewart died in 1973 in Livingston.
