Wesley Matthews

Wesley Matthews Jr. ( born October 14, 1986 in San Antonio ) is an American professional basketball player who plays in the NBA for the Portland Trail Blazers. His father Wes Matthews was also active in the NBA.

Career

After Matthews had played at Marquette University college basketball, he became a professional. When NBA Draft 2009 Matthews, however, was not selected by the team. Nevertheless, he was invited by the Utah Jazz and Sacramento Kings to the NBA Summer League. Matthews convinced and was taken by the Jazz under contract. After the Jazz Ronnie Brewer had sent away, Matthews moved on to the grid. His first year he finished with 9.4 points per game off.

After the season, Matthews was protected free agent. After he accepted a contract offer from the Portland Trail Blazers, the Jazz had a week to catch up with the offer of the Blazers and thus to keep Matthews in Utah. However, the Jazz did not address the offer and Matthews moved to Portland.

Due to a serious injury of star player Brandon Roy Matthews was appointed to the starting line-up and established himself behind LaMarcus Aldridge has become a major player on the team. In his second year Matthews boosted its points total to 15.9 points per game.
