Wess

Wess (actually: Wesley Johnson, born August 13, 1945 in Winston -Salem, † September 21, 2009 ) was an Italian singer.

Wess was born in North Carolina and grew up in New York City. In the 1960s, he was electric bassist of Rhythm and Blues Band Rocky Roberts & The Airedales, which celebrated international successes. After his departure from the band Wess came to Italy in 1966, as was him there offered a recording contract. His first single Senza Luce, an Italian version of A Whiter Shade of Pale was already a hit.

In 1972 he founded with singer Dori Ghezzi a duo. He took with her success at the San Remo Festival in part and was allowed to begin with her for Italy at the Euro Vision Song Contest 1975. With the radio - Title Era they reached the third place. By 1979, the duo released seven albums.

In the 1980s, Wess ran a recording studio and a record company in Canada. In the 2000s he was again increased with his live band on the road. He died suddenly in 2009 as a result of an asthma attack. He was the Weeks previously been on tour in Canada and the United States.
