Westfield is a city in Hamilton County, Indiana. According to the census of 2000, there are 9,293 inhabitants in the city.

Geography

Westfield is 40 ° 1'56 "north and 86 ° 7'44 " west ( 40.032266, -86.129015 ).

History

Westfield was (all Quakers from North Carolina ) founded on May 6, 1834 by Asa Bales, Ambrose Osborne and Nathan Parker. One theory is that the city was planned as a holding station of the Underground Railroad, as many Quakers and Wesleyan Methodist churches supported this endeavor. When the laws against supporting the escaped slaves were increasingly tightened, a part of the Westfield Quakers split as Anti-Slavery Friends from (Eng. friends against slavery ).

Demography

According to the 2000 census, are 9,293 inhabitants, 3,386 households, and 2,454 families residing in the city. The population density is 470.3 per km ². There are 3,606 housing units at an average density of 182.5 per km ². The population is as follows: 93.60 % White, 1.00% African American, 0.40 % Native American, 1.81% Asian, 0.11 % Pacific Islander, 1.86% other, and 1, 23% of two or more groups. 3.83% of the population is Hispanic or Latino of any group.

Of the 3,386 households, 46.2 % have children under the age of 18, 59.1 % are married living together in the household, 10.3% are single mothers with no husband present, and 27.5 % are non-families. 21.8 % of all households consist of single persons and 6.2 % consists of seniors 65 years or older. The average household size is 2.72 and the average family size is 3.20.
